Breast cancer in Ghana often goes undetected and untreated for a very long time, resulting in both physical deformities and stigmatisation of the patient. For this reason, it is extremely important to increase women’s awareness and early detection rates and a local Ghanaian organisation has developed a plan to use the bus networks to reach as many women as possible.
Around 90% of bus passengers in Ghana are women travelling to markets to trade their goods and the local breast cancer organisation plans to set up pop-up tents at busy bus stops where women can attend educational talks, see a nurse and be referred to a doctor if necessary.
Inspire2Live is assisting the organisation to find ways to raise funds locally, and providing a platform within the World Campus to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information with other countries.
