March 25 2015 Inspire2Live organized a lung cancer congress at the Medical Centre of the Free University. 3 topics were intensely discussed and actions will be taken to improve the quality of life from lung cancer patients.
Patient Advocates, researchers, clinicians and representatives from a health insurance company, came together and worked on several initiatives. One of the researchers was Louis Kyriakoudes, a historian from the University of Southern Missisippi. Invite a historian to a lung cancer congress? Yes, that’s what Inspire2Live does; bring together people with different perspective around important topics and invite them to come up with a solution.
As Louis Kyriakoudes stated; tobacco induced diseases, like lung cancer, are a political problem. Not just a medical. Don’t blame the patient, blame the tobacco industry. This industry is responsible for 100 million deaths in the 20th century and will be responsible, if we do not stop them, for the projected death of 1 billion deaths in the 21st century.
The two other topics were; the differences in treatments and the pricing in treatments. There is a great difference in the quality of treatments between hospitals and the price of the best treatments is getting sky high. Inspire2Live will take action to work on these two topics. One of the actions is to work further on the pricing of treatments in a congress that will be organized together with Cinderella Therapeutics later this year.
