Interactive Roundtable: Rethinking palliative care

Inspire2Live hosted a roundtable webinar and panel discussion titled “Rethinking Palliative Care”, moderated by Loveth Iwaye, a patient advocate from Nigeria and member of the Inspire2Live Palliative Care Working Group.

The discussion challenged the common misconception that palliative care is only about end-of-life support. Instead, it highlighted that true palliative care begins early in the patient journey – focusing on the whole person, not just the illness, and extending care to families and communities.

Speakers emphasized the holistic nature of palliative care, its role in improving quality of life, and the urgent need to integrate it into standard healthcare systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries. They also reflected on the vital role of patient advocates in raising awareness and influencing policy.

The session opened with Peter Kapitein, founder of Inspire2Live, who introduced the organization’s mission to bring together all stakeholders in healthcare and continuously strive to “do better for patients.”
