Third edition of the Dutch National Cancer and Work Day (Nationale Kanker en Werk Dag)
The third edition of the Dutch National Cancer and Work Day (Nationale Kanker en Werk Dag or NKWD) will take place on March 15 2022, preceded by 2 online introductory sessions on February 10 and 17. This year the organisers will promote job retention and sustainable employability for cancer patients. Patient Advocate Sabine Wernars is one of the organisers and she explains: We do this with inspiring guests and concrete tools for employers, self-employed professionals and employees. Fellow Patient Advocate Ilona Schelle will be one of these guests and this year’s theme is: What is possible?
For managers, HR, entrepreneurs and employees
The National Cancer and Work Day is for anyone who may be affected by cancer in the workplace and offers employees, managers, HR and self-employed professionals the opportunity to gain knowledge, exchange experiences and pick up some practical tools.
Textbook for the oncology nurse
In addition to being part of the organisation of the National Cancer and Work Day, we have also had the opportunity to write a contribution about cancer and work in the Textbook for Oncology Nurses (Leerboek oncologieverpleegkunde in Dutch, ISBN 9789036826440). This is the first time that the topic of cancer and work is being covered as part of this training and this textbook is now the standard reference for all oncology nurses and paramedics. The combination of general oncological, diagnostic, medical, psychosocial and comprehensive care aspects makes it extremely suitable for nurses and paramedics involved in the treatment and care of people with cancer and their families to use in everyday practice.
Acknowledgement
I would like to thank Ilona Schelle for her collaboration on this third edition of the National Cancer and Work Day.
