Who am I
My name is Peter Allen, I’m married with two wonderful, now grown up, children.
My career was spent largely in Central Banking where I held several senior roles in the UK and in Germany.
In 2001 I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia and have remained treatment free. I have taken part in research programmes and charity fundraising and am the Vice-Chair of the UK CLL Support Association.
I am also an author with a book about my cancer story to be published in 2025.
I am a strong advocate for clear communication and shared decision making between doctors and patients. I also promote the importance of purpose, relationships, and attitude on living with the uncertainty that a cancer diagnosis brings.
Why
Having lived with the ambiguity and uncertainty of Chronic Leukaemia for 25 years I believe quality of life for patients goes beyond survival. Relationships, purpose, meaning and love are often not mentioned in the ‘cancer equation’. I am a strong advocate for patients to find their way through the challenges they face, bringing stories, beliefs and hope into the conversation.
Language is vital in our understanding, approach and identity following a cancer diagnosis and I believe we need new ways to describe and explain our own unique situation.
I am honoured to join Inspire2live and feel that by bringing patients together to share their stories and support each other we can and will continue to find ways to redefine what cancer means.
Whether it’s prevention, diagnosis, active monitoring, treatment and beyond, each of us has a story to tell, one that can reflect the challenge but also inspire to live.
