Who am I
´Jolene Jolene Jolene, I’m begging of you please don’t take my man’ was the song Nel was singing when she called me in to her consulting room. With a big smile on my face, as a confident 23-year old I laughed as the song reminded me of so many good introductions – not knowing that within the next 60 seconds I was going to be diagnosed with cancer.
Why
The enormous impact that such a message can have on you as a human being, as someone who is fully alive, energized and excited to live, is devastating. My life turned into being a full time patient. Treatments that make you sit at home, being sick, disabling you from what you want to do while seeing what others are capable of doing.
Having had more than 100 hospital appointments in one year, the hospital became my new best friend. Now, two years later my life as Joliene and not as a full time patient anymore inspired me to take part in changing care paths, to make the journey as a patient a little somewhat better. With the ultimate goal to have the fastest (communicated) diagnosis, the best personalized treatment within a personalized care setting.
