Who am I
Originally from Belgium, I lived, studied and worked in China before moving to the Netherlands in 2001. This year (2025) I will be living abroad longer than I have done in my native country Belgium. I am a sinologist, intercultural trainer, leadership trainer, leadership coach and have my own company since 2010. I travel a lot for work and love connecting to people all over the world with the purpose of creating stronger connections within global multinational teams. I am also a mindfulness trainer and regularly conduct free meditation sessions for groups. I live with my husband and my twins in Amstelveen, The Netherlands.
Why
My first real confrontation with cancer was when my father got diagnosed with metastasized lung cancer in 1997. Within 3 months time, he died. My family was in shock and were devastated. He never had been ill in his life, and in 3 months time this healthy beautiful man was gone. In the first weeks of the COVID lockdown I got diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. My diagnosis was not the last one in my family unfortunately. Several family members have gotten cancer since then. We are all tested for genetic cancer and all turned out negative. Why is this happening is a question I have asked myself regularly in the last few years. In 2025 I joined iInspire2Live for multiple reasons. I want to advocate for rare types of breast cancers, help to do research within why cancer is more present within certain families than in others and I want to advocate for awareness within the medical world how to bring cancer diagnosis in a less task oriented way to patients. Next to that, I want to help to raise awareness for early detection and want to contribute to after-care for patients who have recovered from cancer. A lot of work needs to be done!
