Patient Advocate: Huig Schipper
After diagnosed in 2006 of colon cancer and surgery in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (AvL) hospital in Amsterdam I received chemo therapy in the Catharina hospital in Eindhoven. Because of removal of recurrent polipes I see my doctor in the AvL quite regularly.
During 2007 till 2013 I was participant of the Patients Council in the AvL hospital and from 2013 onwards member of the client council of the Catharina hospital in Eindhoven. I also a member of the patients group SPKS Darmkanker (better known as stichting Doorgang) and member PACO with the assignment to review research proposals from the patients perspective .
I am alumnus at the university of Utrecht at which I finished my study in physics and mathematics . My working life was with Philips Electronics as a management consultant and manager of several departments O&E, ICT en Logistics in Netherland and USA.
Hobbies are hiking in the mountains of Austria, biking and fitness. I am married and have 3 children and 4 grandchildren .
It is my conviction that scientific research will ultimately make cancer a chronic disease . As a Patient Advocate I will support that research. The Patient Advocate group of I2L ‘Innovation of the clinical practice’ makes a great inspirering environment since almost half a year now.
